We have 3 licenced bat workers at Acorn Ecology with a wide range of experience in bat survey work and bat rescues. This includes extensive European Protected Species Licences experience in a number of bat species and an excellent knowledge of cost effective mitigation solutions.
We are equipped to offer a range of bat services including:
Internal and External Surveys
These include a search for signs of bats as well as potential roosting sites in buildings and trees which are to be affected by a development. They can be completed at any time of year and are often incorporated within the initial wildlife scoping survey and also include a Barn Owl survey. If potential for bats is noted then further emergence surveys are often required. Reports include a thorough analysis of any evidence or potential for bats noted with maps depicting any important site features.
Dusk/Dawn Emergence Surveys
These involve recording the numbers and species of bats leaving or re-entering a bat roost. We use a range of specialist equipment including heterodyne bat detectors and highly trained staff out in the field and advanced Anabat detectors with Analook software to get accurate information on any bat species present. All this information is then provided in a report.
Activity Surveys
Some habitats are particularly important for bats to feed or to commute from a roost to foraging ground. Activity surveys enable us to gather information on how bats are using the site and therefore design mitigation which reduces any impacts on their use of the site where appropriate.
European Protected Species Licences
We are highly experienced in working on EPSLs and always offer the most cost effective and practical mitigation plans with clear advice and where appropriate illustration to ensure successful mitigation. We liase fully with all clients throughout this process.
