Latest News › Batwoman to the rescue!

Sue Searle, local bat worker in Exeter, recently rescued a bat from a wall at Princesshay Shopping Centre in the middle of Exeter.  The bat had been hanging on the wall for 2 days when Sue was called in by security staff.  Watched by shopkeepers and other onlookers Sue went up a ladder and rescued the bat.  People who saw it were surprised at how small it was.  The bat was a male Brandt's bat and was safely relesed later that day nearby after having some water and food.

Sue has also been called to rescue a bat at the Police Headquarters in Exeter where a Whiskered bat was hanging on a wall for 3 days.

At this time of year (late summer) some bats seem to get overtired or dehydrated.  Possibly sub-adults dispersing and unable to find enough food or water.
