Introductory level course covering commonly occurring invasive species found in the UK. This course will provide useful information on early recognition and control of invasive species.
The course will cover the following:
- What is an invasive species?
- How species invade: naturally, accidentally and deliberately
- Introduction to invasive species: terrestrial and aquatic plants and animals
- Environmental impacts
- Legislation
- Identifying invasive plants such as: Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam, Giant Hogweed, Parrots Feather.
- Examples of treatment
The course will also include a short field trip to look for invasive species.
