David Blakemore
David graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science at Manchester Metropolitan Univerity in 2008 and went on to attend our Certificate in Ecological Consultancy Course in 2010, which included a 4 week work placement. Since the course he has worked as a field ecologist on the London Gateway project where he undertook reptile and newt translocation fieldwork. He has also worked as a subcontractor for three different consultancies, carrying out numerous bat surveys including dusk-emergence, dawn-rentry and bat activity surveys. This has allowed him to build up around 75 hours of bat work, including live handling of bats with the Worcestershire bat group. He is still keen to learn new skills and attends different courses throughout the year.

Nigel Wood
Nigel has knowledge and experience acquired in nearly 30 years managing and working for nature reserves, SSSIs and country parks. Nigel studied with Acorn Ecology on the first Certificate in Ecological Consultancy in 2010. He passed with flying colours and gained an award for best report. Whilst on the course he undertook protected species, site assessment and Phase 1 habitat surveys. He surveyed for reptiles, dormice, barn owls and badgers. Also bat activity and emergence surveys. He also assisted with bat sonogram analysis using Analook® software other courses included Wildlife Law, hedgerow legislation. Nigel is an expert botanist and is experienced in butterfly and dragonfly identification and survey techniques. The management of ancient woodland is another of his skills. Through professional development and personal study Nigel has applied ecological principals to all projects he undertook as site manager. He managed a 5 year pond improvement program to benefit great crested newts in Braintree and long term dormouse tube survey in Garnett’s Wood, Dunmow Essex. He uses MapMate® for species recording and has experience with MapInfo® and other GIS packages. Nigel is applying for full IEEM membership and studying species recording and monitoring with FSC. He is currently setting up his own Ecological Consultancy.

Roger Gravestock
Roger is a graduate of Plymouth University with a BSc (Hons) in Wildlife Conservation (2008) and also a recent graduate from our Certificate in Ecological Consultancy course. With us he learnt valuable skills such as site assessment, report writing, Phase 1 Habitat Survey and survey techniques for protected species. Roger completed a 4 week work placement within our consultancy where he gained experience in reptile and bat surveys. After this he continued as a bat volunteer and now has over 40 hours of bat work experience including both emergence and activity surveys. Due to his reliable and hard working attitude we kept him on as a subcontractor to complete reptile translocation work. Roger has continued to increase his knowledge of protected species through attending wildlife seminars and keeping up to date with wildlife legislation and new publications. He is also involved with the National Otter Survey data collection for the Devon Biological Records Centre. He is a reliable and hard-working employee with a real enthusiasm for wildlife conservation.
