Phase 1 habitat surveys, 1-day course
This introductory level ecology course will greatly enhance your understanding of Phase 1 habitat surveys and give you confidence in carrying them out. The field experience gained will be relevant to both consultancy and conservation. Phase 1 habitat surveying is a system of mapping habitats as a baseline to further survey work and is the industry standard used by ecologists throughout the UK. Field and classroom based at venues around Exeter.
During the course you will:
• Gain an understanding of why, how and when Phase 1 habitat surveys are used
• Gain field experience of identifying and recording habitats
• Learn identification of dominant plant species
• Prepare a Phase 1 habitat map in the classroom
A Phase 1 handbook is essential if you want to carry out a Phase 1 habitat survey and we recommend that you buy one from the book shop on our website. Please note that during the course you will be required to walk up to 3km and on uneven ground, so please ensure that you are capable of this before booking.
