A Phase 1 Habitat Survey is often requested by the Local Planning Authority to accompany a planning application or form part of an Environmental Statement. This survey means that any ecological constraints in a project or design are picked up quickly thus preventing any costly delays.
This survey is also important in conducting BREEAM/Code for Sustainable Homes as it allows us to establish the biodiversity baseline and therefore informs any enhancement recommendations.
Our Phase 1 or Scoping Surveys are designed according to the proposed development, scale of development and your objectives to ensure a speedy and cost effective service based on sound customer service.
Contact us now to discuss a project at info@acornecology.co.uk or call on 01392 366512. Early involvement of an ecologist, particularly in the initial planning is likely to reduce your project costs.
All our scoping surveys follow JNCC guidelines but we also adapt our surveys to include other assessments as appropriate. This ensures as many potential ecological issues are highlighted within one survey and survey report. Examples of these additions are:
- Mapping of Phase 1 Habitats and subhabitats as appropriate;
- Identifying any potential use of the site for protected species which could be present and recommendation of further survey as appropriate;
- If a hedgerow is to be impacted on then a hedgerow survey will be included. This means assessing whether it is a species-rich important hedgerow under the Hedgerow Regulations;
- Checking for signs of Badgers;
- An internal and external bat survey by a licensed bat surveyor of any buildings that may be affected on site;
- A botanical survey with species list (particularly useful for BREEAM/Code for Sustainable Homes);
Our clearly worded professional reports will inform your project decisions enable you to make the right decisions for your development and we will advise according to your objectives and current legal and planning compliance. We will offer recommendations for wildlife enhancement which can be integrated at your discretion. We aim to complete all survey reports within 7 days of the survey and will keep you informed throughout the process.
