Reptiles such as Grass Snake, Slow-worm, Adder and Common Lizard are widespread throughout the UK. These species are legally protected and therefore commonly considered under legal and planning regulations.
They are particularly likely if your development site has scrub or rough grassland and their potential to be on site could be assessed by a scoping or Phase 1 Habitat Survey, when any possible impacts would also be investigated.
If a significant risk of impact was suggested then a reptile presence/absence survey would be conducted based on industry standard. Acorn Ecology has extensive experience of reptile surveys and mitigation solutions such as reptile translocation, so contact us today if you have a project you would like to discuss at info@acornecology.co.uk or call on 01392 366512.
Site assessment for reptile potential can take place at any time of year but presence/absence surveys are restricted (Usually April-September).
