Site Assessment & Report Writing

This introductory course will give you a chance to gain some field experience and will greatly enhance your understanding of how to carry out an ecological site assessment, an essential skill for any ecological consultant.
Field and classroom based with the opportunity to visit and assess a range of different sites around Exeter. During the course you will:

 

 

  • Conduct walkover wildlife surveys at 3 different 'development' sites
  • Identify which protected species (eg. dormice, badgers and bats) may be present on site, by recognizing signs and suitable habitat
  • Identify protected habitats on site eg. hedgerows
  • Discuss any further survey work which will be required
  • Learn about relevant wildlife legislation
  • Learn how to conduct a data search and desk study
  • Learn how to write a report

Once you have booked this course, we will send your booking confirmation, details of course venue and directions, programme for the day, what to bring, and a list of local accomodation providers. 

Please note that site visits will involve sustained walking for up to 4km, some of which will be over rough ground, so please ensure you are capable of this before booking.
