Our ‘Survey Techniques for Protected Species’ course is aimed at anyone who feels they lack the necessary field skills to succeed in an ecological job. The course gives an introduction into a range of survey techniques, relevant to both conservation and consultancy.
During the course the following survey techniques will be covered:
• Dormouse survey techniques including a nest-tube survey
• Walkover otter survey covering rivers and canals
• Badger survey- visit a badger sett, look for signs and discuss other survey
techniques
• Reptile surveying
• Identification of mammal tracks and signs
• Basic bat ecology and bat walk, using detectors.
Please note the course will be mainly field based. Site visits will involve sustained walking for up to 5km, some of which will be over rough ground. Please ensure that you are capable of this before booking.
