There are many reasons to manage a site for wildlife
including protecting species and habitats, avoiding distrubance,
avoiding degradation, enhancing wildlife habitats on a site, complying
with the law or a planning condition, enhancing the aesthetic value of
a site and enhancing the enjoyment and intrinsic value of a site for
people.
The natural world is being constantly
degraded by poor planning and management which has knock-on effects for
ecosystems and ultimately human health and wellbeing.
Developments in particular should aim to provide a wildlife GAIN, which is usually possible with forethought.
Wildlife
sites also need to be managed to achieve the best quality habitat and
diverse species. Neglected sites have reduced habitat and species
diversity.
